ROUTE DESCRIPTION
If you want to really deeply experience the calm and majestic nature of Karelia, feel free to choose a canoe, kayak or kayak.
Rafting on the river Uksunjoki by kayak is suitable for those who want to get the most out of the river in a short time – that is, for you – those who have raked in the unexpected Neva (2016), deceptive Volkhov (2016), treacherous Shuya (2017), exhausting Vuoksa (2019), impressive Ladoga skerries (2020).
The complexity of the rapids on the route is incremental, giving you a great opportunity to roll out before the main challenging obstacles.
Our rafting takes place in June when the main flood goes down and the water is much less, and the rapids are safer than in May holidays, for example. At this time obstacles become very interesting exactly for kayaks and give a lot of impressions and adrenaline! (probably, and there: yes, yes, no, no).
KARELIA, RUSSIA
DAY 1
We meet at the traditional place – at the MegaParnas parking lot, regroup and drive north along the highway A-121 (“Sortavala”). We come to the settlement Uuksu, leave our cars on the parking of the tourist camp “Trie elementi”, and drive to the beginning of the rafting – the bridge on the highway A-121. Further on by circumstances – or we’ll walk a little bit along the river and camp in the beautiful place or arrange spending the night there. The first threshold on our route is Mostovoy.
Further the river calms down enough, and to the rapids “Saucer” we meet only small ports.
After Saucer we look for a comfortable anchorage and camp. We cook delicious dinner and continue…. In the morning we have an early rise, because we have a lot to do in just one weekend.
DAY 2
We get out on the water and continue rafting on the still calm river for a while. Very soon we will come to the first rapids on our way, Pink Elephant.
We will by all means look through this rapids and if we want we can have some riding there, the rapids are local and it’s perfect for it. Here we have lunch.
After lunch we move to the rapids Mill, which is only 300 m away from Pink Elephant. We check it out and pass it with insurance. After a short stretch of the river the next interesting rapids – Canyon and the final one – Hramina.
On one of these rapids we will spend the night. In the evening we’ll have dinner, admire the rapids, talk?
Day 3
Early rise and breakfast, get ready and go out on the water.
Ahead of Hramina is quite a long rapids with a powerful overflow and a long jib after it. We pass it with insurance (What is it?). Further the river calms down a little, there are only some easy shifts on the way.
We finish our rafting trip at the base “Tri Vesi”.
We dry ourselves, disassemble the boats, have lunch and go home.
